Each year, BUY-Cobb offers scholarships to area high school seniors, who have participated in the BUY-Cobb Leadership Academy. Students are expected to complete applications which include their official high school transcript, two letters of reference, and an essay. The scholarship is known as The Willie Hill Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship was named for Mr. Willie Hill, a faithful BUY-Cobb member. Mr. Hill, a native of Brooks County, Georgia believed in educational excellence. He earned a B.S. degree in History from Fort Valley State College and a Master’s degree in Education and Leadership from Columbia University, New York, New York. During his career in education, Mr. Hill served as the Principal of Lemon Street High School, Assistant Principal of Marietta High School, and the Principal at both Wright Street and Park Street Elementary Schools. After he retired, Mr. Hill became the Director of Educational Planning and System Development for Marietta City Schools.

In addition to his membership in BUY-Cobb, Mr. Hill had roles within many organizations including Deacon – Zion Baptist Church; Life Member – NAACP; Life Member – Fort Valley State University; Life Member – Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Charter Member – Omicron Mu Lambda Chapter); Georgia Association of Educators; National Education Association; Eden Lodge #46; and Board Member – Tommy Nobis Center and the MACO Credit Union. Mr. Hill passed away in 1997, but his lasting contributions to the community continue to multiply. On December 14, 2018, the Willie Hill Conference Room was dedicated in the Marietta School’s Central Office.
